How would you describe Flatbreads? I would describe Flatbread as a wood-fired family restaurant that prides itself in organic, locally sourced, wood-fired, homemade pizza, salads, and desserts. We support our community and go above and beyond when it comes to atmosphere and customer service.

How much of the food is locally sourced? Depending on the time of year, spring summer and fall are the most locally sourced times of year. There are some items we can get locally sourced all year long like our blue cheese and our maple syrup.

Is there such thing as healthy pizza? We believe our pizzas are healthy because of the way in which we prep our ingredients and our recipes. We use the freshest ingredients and do not add any preservatives to anything that we make in house like our tomato sauce, house dressing, peperoni, sausage, chicken, and pork.

Whats your favorite pizza? My favorite pizza would have to be the Mopsy’s Pork Pie. It started with a homemade mango BBQ sauce, slow roasted pulled pork, locally sourced goat cheese, local fresh sliced red onions, fresh sliced pineapple, whole milk mozzarella, a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, and our homemade organic herb mix. It is sweet, tangy, and spicy all in one! It originated in our Maui location in Paia, Hawaii.

Does Flatbreads offer anything other then Pizza? Healthy alternatives? Other than pizza we offer a fresh organic red and green leaf mescaline mix house salad that is topped with organic shredded carrots, organic diced celery, a bit of local kelp, a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds, and is finished with our homemade berry vinaigrette dressings that is to die for! The prep process of our homemade dressing is a month or two but absolutely worth the wait. You can also get any of our fresh sliced veggies, meats, or creamy cheeses added to your salad!

How does Flatbreads fit in with Amesbury culture? Flatbread fits in very well with the Amesbury culture because we have been around since 1998. We were one of the first family restaurants in town when we opened and locally sourced and supported the community since day 1. Every Tuesday night we host a different benefit for the community. An individual from the group will be in charge of getting the word out and any Flatbread that is ordered between 5 and close that evening, a portion of it will go straight to the organization that is hosting the benefit that evening. It is great because it is not about saying you are with the benefit, but rather, every person that comes through the door whether dining in or taking out will help support the benefit that evening. It is a great way to connect to the community. As managers we are also required to do 7 Acts of Kindness throughout the week. This could be something as easy as donating a gift card to a silent auction or taking care of a family’s entire meal that has been having a hard time. It feels good to be able to give back and it really costs us almost nothing and means so much to our customers. Flatbread has always locally sourced even before it was a fad. Without small businesses and farmers we would not have the healthy alternatives we have today. We are always here to support the little guy and the community that loves us right back.

Does Pizza and Community go hand in hand? Our pizza and our community absolutely goes hand in hand. Some of our specialty pizzas are named after our long time regulars. One of our pizzas on the menu is called The Amesbury Community.

Can you tell me a little about your charity nights? Our charity nights or benefit nights are a huge success here in Amesbury. We usually book out a couple months in advance and are always accepting benefit applications especially from new organizations that have never had the opportunity of hosting  Tuesday night benefit here in Amesbury. They group is in charge of making a benefit banner that hangs in our vestibule the week before the benefit letting the customers know what the benefit is and the time and date. They are also in charge of getting the word out and the people through the door. We donate $3.50 of every large pizza and $1.75 of every small pizza sold that night between the hours of 5 and close whether it is dine in or take out. Every pizza goes towards the benefit that night, you don’t have to say your with the benefit or give a special token or show a flyer. Every pizza sold counts!

What do you like about Amesbury? The North Shore? I grew up in Amesbury and have worked for Flatbread for 10 years. I started as a host and fell in love with this company and what it stands for. I moved to other locations close by like Portsmouth and Hampton but was thrilled to be able to come back and manage the Flatbread I first came to in 1998. My father owned a restaurant in Amesbury and I graduated from Amesbury High School. I have seen this town transform into a beautiful community and I am proud to work at Flatbread and to really be able to say that I felt like I have made a difference in my home town.

What are some of your passions/hobbies? My hobbies would honestly be people. I love talking to people and getting to know them. I love putting a smile on people’s faces even if they are a stranger and I might never see them again. That is one of the reasons Flatbread pulled me in because I get to do that every day through great food, outstanding atmosphere, and exception service. I love listening to peoples stories and what has made them who they are today
